Baudelaire's A Carcass: Product Shots
As I discussed in my last blog post, I’m now offering subscribers a free digital version of my magazine project Baudelaire’s A Carcass. This is my way of thanking all you vultures for joining me on my weirdo dark art journey and (hopefully) enticing more folks to sign up.
For collectors who want something more tangible, I’m also selling physical copies of the magazine.
After spending quite a lot of time trying to get everything just right for this project, I have to say that I’m very pleased with how the final product turned out!
Baudelaire’s A Carcass is an 8.5X11 high quality magazine with a sturdy semi-gloss cover and high quality binding.
The magazine is 24 pages long — I'm keeping it short to keep the price point low — and it contains 15 high-fidelity images.
Although I’ve sometimes colloquially referred to this project as a “Zine“ in the past, I want to be totally clear that this is not a cheaply-made photocopied document pieced together in a Staples somewhere in the suburbs. Rather, Baudelaire’s A Carcass is a beautiful professional quality magazine — something that is very much intended as a budget alternative to a coffee table fine art book.
The magazine is being sold through Blurb, a print-on-demand service. This is in contrast to the prints in my online store which are always signed, packaged, and shipped my me personally. Having someone else fill and ship the orders is necessary in order to keep this kind of project inexpensive and logistically manageable. Blurb is a highly reputable company with lots of experience selling self-published books and magazines; I’ve ordered several samples and they’ve all arrived in great condition and in a timely manner.
As you can see from these product images, the binding and print quality of the physical magazine is really quite professional. It took me a lot longer than I anticipated to complete this but, in the end, I’m very pleased with how things turned out.
This is the first in a series of short magazine projects that I'll be releasing over the next few months. My idea with these is to produce a kind of budget alternative to a coffee-table fine art book; I'm thinking about each project less as an issue of a "Zine" and more like a self-contained art project analogous to a fine art photography book (but smaller and cheaper).
If you want to see the full contents of the magazine before you buy, you can always subscribe to my mailing list to get your free digital copy.
Stayed tuned for more magazines in the coming months!
